This GTO LS1 alternator is a 3 wire just like my 76. Got the one big lug that goes to the BAT lug on the starter. Then there are the 2 smaller wires in a plug that goes into the side of the alternator. One wire goes to the BAT lug on the starter also. The other wire goes to a plug going on to the body harness.
On my LT1 one wire is the output and the other wire goes to an alternator light in my car (I used the old choke light on my console). I believe if you don't connect this wire correctly it will not charge the system. The other end of the alternator light is connected to an ignition positive.
